Gian Giovanoli
It all started at Lake Sils
Growing up in the serene village of Sils Maria, Gian discovered his love for photography along the shores of Lake Sils. His passion for capturing the beauty of the Engadine valley blossomed when he acquired his first camera.
As requests for various shoots increased, Gian embarked on a career as a commercial photographer, specializing in fashion, sports, architecture, and still life. He lent his expertise to numerous clients, magazines, and prominent companies. Despite over a decade of full-time work on diverse projects, Gian realized his true passion lay elsewhere: landscape photography.
Eager to reconnect with his roots, Gian opened his own gallery in Pontresina in 2017, later relocating it to St. Moritz in 2020. His work is renowned for impressive large-format landscape photography in limited editions, unique fusion pieces reflecting alpine culture, and documentary photography of nomadic herders far beyond the Engadine.
Laura Hendry
Back where I belong
Laura is a true mountain girl. Born and raised in the picturesque town of Sedrun, she has always been at home in hiking boots. When not exploring trails or skiing, she often helped out at her parents' silk-screen-printing business. Working there, Laura discovered her love for using her hands to beautify textiles and promotional materials.
Despite her creative inclinations, Laura chose to pursue a commercial apprenticeship. She spent several years working for various companies as an assistant to the CEO and management assistant, eventually earning her Bachelor of Business Administration.
Then Gian entered her life. During the early, Laura lived in Zurich but traveled to the Engadine almost every weekend. After three years in the city, she longed for the fresh mountain air, stunning Alps, and ski slopes. Faced with the question, “Should I stay, or should I go?” she chose to return to her roots. Since the summer of 2022, Laura has taken over Gian’s gallery. From welcoming and advising clients to dry mounting and framing photographs, she manages everything that happens after Gian clicks the shutter.
We look forward to welcoming you at L'ATELIER!
